Privacy policy
Style That DOM is a small site run by Joel Nevius. It collects only what it needs to run, shows ads to no one, and sells nothing. This page explains what that means in practice.
What we collect
When you sign in
You sign in with GitHub or with an email and password. With GitHub, we receive your email address, your handle, and your avatar image URL, and we use your handle as your username. With email, we store your email address and the username you choose. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes by our sign-in provider, so nobody, including us, can read them.
What you post
Your submitted CSS, the notes you add to it, whether you marked it as made with AI, your comments, and the submissions you like. All of this is public, along with your username, avatar, and profile page.
Your bookmarks are private. Only you can see which submissions you’ve bookmarked. Authors see how many people bookmarked their submission, never who.
What stays in your browser
- Sign-in cookies, which keep you signed in.
- A
themecookie, if you choose light or dark mode. - Unsent CSS drafts and your compare-view setting, saved in your browser’s local storage. These never leave your device.
We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
View counts
When you open a submission, we add one to that submission’s view count. Only its author can see the count. We don’t record who viewed it.
Technical logs
Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, browser type, and request times, for security and troubleshooting.
How we use it
To run the site: to sign you in, show your submissions and profile, count likes, and keep the site free of spam and abuse. We don’t sell your data or share it with anyone for marketing.
Who else handles it
- Supabase stores the database, handles sign-in, and sends account emails such as confirmations and password resets.
- GitHub confirms your identity if you sign in with it.
- Our hosting provider serves the site.
- Google Fonts and image hosts: previews load any fonts or images that a challenge or someone’s CSS links to. Your browser fetches those files directly from the hosts involved, which then see your IP address.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and posts until you delete them. You can delete a submission or comment at any time, and you can delete your whole account from your account page. That permanently removes your profile, submissions, comments, likes, and bookmarks. Copies in our providers’ backups expire within their normal backup periods.
Because submitted CSS is shared under CC0 (see the terms), copies other people have already made or remixed may remain after you delete yours.
Your choices and rights
You can see, change, or delete what you’ve posted on the site. From your account page, you can download a copy of all your data or delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. For anything you can’t do yourself, email design@joelnevius.com.
Children
Style That DOM isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also post a notice on the site.
